Women at Griffin Electric: Paving the Way

Holliston, MA (March 2024). A leading electrical subcontractor throughout New England and the Southeast for over 45 years, Wayne J. Griffin Electric, Inc. (Griffin Electric) is proud to recognize Women in Construction. With the industry recently recognizing Women in Construction Week, and with March marking National Women’s History Month, this time of year is an important reminder of the contributions and strides that women have made in the construction field, and the company is incredibly proud of the significant role that Griffin women have played in its own success over the past four-plus decades.

Young women entering the trades are in a unique position to pave their own way and craft the life they see for themselves, and the company offers the support needed to help them along their journey by fostering an environment that allows its employees to pursue all their goals. Griffin Electric’s merit shop philosophy was built on the foundation that employees can create their own future and pursue their goals, whether personal, career-oriented, or education related. And no matter what path a woman chooses, Griffin Electric believes that she should be met with both encouragement and support.

As part of its commitment to promote construction and the benefits of a career in the trades, Griffin Electric works with underrepresented groups and women’s organizations throughout the year to raise awareness about these opportunities. Apprenticeship is an excellent pathway toward a fulfilling and lucrative career, and the company has seen many women attain their electrical licensure over the past thirty years through its in-house Apprenticeship Training Program.

Fully accredited and designated as an approved training site by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Griffin’s program is offered at its headquarters in Holliston, MA, as well as at each of its regional office locations in Alabama, Georgia, and North Carolina. The program features a combination of classroom and hands-on instruction, where apprentices earn excellent compensation and receive full benefits while gaining practical field experience under the supervision of a licensed journeyperson.

Beyond the Apprenticeship Training Program, Griffin Electric strives to embody this same collaborative and healthy work environment throughout all levels of the company. Griffin offers complimentary classes, seminars and workshops covering personal and professional topics to help employees achieve an ideal work-life balance. In addition to offering each employee $2,000 of annual tuition reimbursement, the company is also proudly partnered with Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston to provide licensed graduates of its Apprenticeship Training Program an opportunity to earn an Associate degree, covering up to 70% of tuition costs for employees.

At Griffin Electric, Women in Construction is more than just an annual event on the calendar. The company is deeply committed to supporting women and helping them make their aspirations a reality. No matter what future they may envision for themselves, the company is eager to offer them the tools to help them be successful. And the company is always open to adding dedicated and skilled women to its team so it can truly “Work with the Best. Be the Best.”
